Spanish satellite business Sateliot, which is planning a fleet of satellites mainly to address Internet of Things (IoT) demand, has opened a Series C round of financing which is looking to secure €100 million.
The aim is to build and launch 16 satellites and also to demo its new 5G ‘New Radio’ service which will offer voice and video to users. The funding round has just opened and the company says it should wrap by this summer with a possibility of raising extra cash. In addition, it anticipates up to 50 per cent public co-financing via match funding.
Barcelona-based Sateliot already has six satellites in orbit and can handle more than 1 million ‘store and forward’ messages daily. It expects to launch another five craft this year.
The company, in a presentation on April 9th, sayid it has pre-contracts in place worth €270 million from more than 400 clients in 60 nations, and agreements in place with Telefonica and Deutsche Telekom.
Sateliot is designing its 2nd Generation craft, called Trió which it plans to launch in 2027 and which will have increased capacity and 5G radio technology as part of a widebeam service.
Jaume Sanpera, CEO of Sateliot, commented: “This Series C reflects the company’s scale and timing. It is the largest round we have opened to date. With it, we will accelerate the deployment of our constellation and commercial execution on a global scale. We trust in the support of industrial, financial, and institutional investors to consolidate a European 5G satellite connectivity infrastructure.”
