ITV Studios’ The Hack to air in 50+ countries

ITV Studios has announced the first international sales for the new premium event drama series The Hack which will see it airing in 50 countries with more under discussion.

The Hack has been acquired by ARTE for French and German speaking countries, YLE in Finland, SVT in Sweden, NRK in Norway, DR in Denmark, Cosmote TV Greece, and TVNZ in New Zealand. Meanwhile, Lionsgate Play and BBC Studios have acquired it in panregional deals spanning seven and 25 countries respectively across South Asia, and CEE.

Produced by ITV Studios, AC Chapter One and One Shoe Films, in co-production with STAN Australia, The Hack, which premieres on ITV and Stan on September 24th, includes among its cast David Tennant (Broadchurch, Doctor Who), Robert Carlyle (Trainspotting, The Full Monty), Toby Jones (Mr Bates vs The Post Office, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny) and Dougray Scott (Irvine Welsh’s Crime, Batwoman).

Set between 2002 and 2012, the drama deftly interweaves two real life stories, the work of investigative journalist Nick Davies, played by Tennant, who uncovered evidence of phone hacking at the News of the World, and running parallel, the story of the investigation into the unsolved murder of private investigator Daniel Morgan, led by former Met Police Detective Chief Superintendent Dave Cook, played by Carlyle.  Jones plays former Editor-in Chief of The Guardian, Alan Rusbridger.

The drama has been directed by Lewis Arnold (Sherwood, The Long Shadow) and is executive produced by Patrick Spence, (Mr Bates vs The Post Office, A Spy Among Friends), who is the Managing Director of AC Chapter One.

Jack Thorne (Adolescence, His Dark Materials) also executive produces alongside Joe Williams (Mr Bates vs The Post Office as Executive Producer, Lupin as Story Producer) for ITV Studios, Lewis Arnold and Tennant.  Abi Bach (Black Earth Rising, And Then There Were None) is the Series Producer. Annalisa Dinnella (Sex Education, Ralph & Katie) has written one of the episodes and has co-written two of the episodes with Thorne.

ITV Studios is producer and co-financier of the drama and distributes the series internationally.
