August 7, 2025

Over the years, we’ve seen a library of television shows shine worldwide. Some productions, such as books, have even been seen first in other media. Likewise, we’re also seeing an increasing number of video games being turned into television shows, with an appetite for this type of offering.

After all, gaming is massive these days. People are exploring virtual reality options like Beat Saber with their families at home; there are portable options through online casino gaming like DraftKings Craps that appeal to gamers everywhere, and titles like Fortnite and Call of Duty have been immensely successful. As such, for television lovers and ardent gamers alike, the appeal of binge-watching a TV series that is based on the video games they know so well understandably draws them in.

Of course, not every television series from this specific genre has reached global audiences and achieved five-star reviews, but there have been some notable successful stories. Let’s look at some of them below, with this specific genre expected to become even more prominent.

Fallout

A hit Prime Video series, Fallout is also a smash-hit gaming release. As such, there was a lot of pressure on the show’s makers to get it spot on. Thankfully, this post-apocalyptic RPG franchise was almost perfect for the initially concerned Fallout gaming communities. Thanks to elements like the show’s accurate depiction of the game, it achieved a record-breaking debut as Prime Video’s biggest premiere. At the same time, it also reached 65 million viewers in its first 16 days. Also officially becoming the most-watched show across all streaming platforms in its first month, Fallout is a television show worth watching.

The Last of Us

Originally a PlayStation game people adored, The Last of Us has been one of the biggest triumphs in this particular television area. Breaking viewership records and receiving critical acclaim, the show is a much-loved adaptation thanks to its authentic feel compared to the game, its expanding story, and the excellent acting on show. Both Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal nailed their roles, with this hit series becoming one of the best of its kind.

The Witcher

With world-famous actors like Henry Cavill heavily involved, The Witcher was expected to deliver. Due to its engaging plot, this fantasy drama television series has become one of Netflix’s most-watched original series. This fantasy drama features everything from mutated monsters to personal struggles that people can relate to. In the same way that the game captivates audiences, The Witcher perfectly translated over to the TV sphere.

Arcane: League of Legends

With a 100 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing, Arcane: League of Legends has done well. Moving rapidly towards the endgame, this all-action masterpiece is a delight. Similar in so many ways to the game, this epic saga provides unmissable action and detailed storylines as viewers immerse themselves in a truly authentic show that does resemble the game.

Castlevania

Although Castlevania’s popularity mainly came between 2017 and 2021, there are still waves of gamers who regard it as the finest crossover ever. The television show based on this dark Japanese fantasy game was immaculate, with its visuals and compelling storyline particularly standing out. If you enjoyed the game, you’ll almost certainly adore the television show. For gamers, you can’t ask for any more than that.

Special mention must also go to Pokémon, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Detention, Twisted Metal, Carmen Sandiego, Gangs of London, Halo, Dragon’s Dogma, Sonic X and Like a Dragon: Yakuz
