Streaming audiences around the world will be able to stream the musical drama Mufasa: The Lion King on Disney+ from March 26th.
Directed by Oscar-winning director Barry Jenkins and featuring all-new songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda – including the viral sensation, I Always Wanted a Brother – Mufasa: The Lion King has been a huge hit in cinemas, earning over $700 million (€641.3m) at the global box office and becoming one of the top 10 biggest global releases of 2024.
The movie, which serves as a prequel to The Lion King, tells the unlikely rise of the beloved king of the Pride Lands, as Rafiki relays the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa lending their signature schtick. Told in flashbacks, the story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka – the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion an expansive journey of an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destiny – their bonds will be tested as they work together to evade a threatening and deadly foe.
The cast features Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Tiffany Boone, Donald Glover, Mads Mikkelsen, Thandiwe Newton, Lennie James and Beyoncé.
