Spain: 650 MasOrange job cuts
October 17, 2024
From David Dell Valle in Madrid
Telco MasOrange and trade unions have reached an agreement over a workforce reduction, affecting 650 employees instead of the initial plan of 795. Both parties have been negotiating in recent weeks following protests from workers. MasOrange has undertaken not to reduce its workforce any further until at least June 2026.
Following this move, the three largest telcos in the country have cut their workforce during 2024, with Telefónica laying off 3,430 workers and Vodafone 898 workers (28.9 per cent of its staff) earlier in 2024.
Meanwhile, MasOrange is set for a partial disposal of its recently-created fibre optic company along with Vodafone for around €4 billion, with the company being valued at between €7 billion and €10 billion. BNP Paribas bank will be the advisor for this sale.
