Forecast: 240 UHD services by end of 2022
September 5, 2022
By Chris Forrester
The Ultra HD Forum’s UHD Service Tracker says that by the end of this year they expect around 240 UHD consumer broadcasts on air. This is up from 208 two years ago.
These numbers do not include services such as the Sky Glass option in the UK and elsewhere in Europe. IBC will see this data updated.
Benjamin Schwarz, Communications Working Group chair, in a paper ahead of IBC, says that UHD guidelines are now better understood in particular those concerning High Dynamic Range and which is helping broadcasters with their own live HDR production.
The UHD Forum has published its latest B2C service tracker covering 234 services of which 78 per cent are linear, 56 per cent include HDR and 26 per cent offer ‘immersive audio’.
