Research: Viewers streaming more action, thriller movies
December 21, 2021
Reelgood, the streaming service aggregator, has looked into data from its VoD Catalogue and Engagement Insights products to discover how consumers changed their streaming preferences in 2021, the second year of the pandemic.
In 2021, there was increasing demand for Action & Adventure and Thriller movies and a decline in demand for feel-good and family-friendly films.

Other highlights include:
- Streaming services increased their investments in Documentary, Family, and Animation movies by the end of 2021 as the pandemic was still peaking, although this hasn’t translated into increased consumption of these titles.
- Prime Video leads the ranking of the most extensive Action & Adventure catalogues. Meanwhile, HBO Max leads with the most streaming activity, with a gain of 9 share points.
- Prime Video and Netflix continue leading the SVoD ranking with the largest catalogues and most-streamed Thriller movies.
