Satellite builder Northrop Grumman is significantly increasing the size of its manufacturing operations in Gilbert, Arizona on the outskirts of Phoenix.
The company says that the expansion includes a 100,000-square-foot addition that will double the site’s satellite production capacity, and a new, two-story, 120,000-square-foot administrative and engineering building to complement an existing office building, Northrop Grumman said on January 31st after holding a groundbreaking ceremony.
The new facilities are designed to help the company meet growing demand from the US Department of Defense, NASA, and commercial and international customers. The Gilbert site is already one of the largest satellite assembly and test facilities in the US, according to Northrop Grumman.
The company is a huge employer with much of its focus on defense technology. In June 2018 it bought satellite builder Orbital ATK for $9.2 billion.
