Portugal: 1.5m subscribe to streaming services

Around 1.5 million Portuguese subscribed to streaming services in August 2019, according to Marktest’s Telecommunications Barometer.
The figure corresponds to 16.8 per cent of residents in mainland Portugal aged 15 and years and over.
The penetration rate of these services is mainly segmented by age and social class. While 39.4 per cent of young people report being users, the figure drops to only 1.1 per cent among older people. Among social classes the values vary 33.5 per cent among the upper classes to 10.4 per cent in the lower classes.
The Telecommunications Barometer also revealed that Netflix is the most popular streaming service among subscribers.
Other players on the streaming market in Portugal include HBO, Amazon, Fox Play, AXN Now, RTP Play, NOS Play and Q Play, with more to come including Disney+ and Apple TV+.
