July 3, 2019
From David Del Valle in Madrid
Spanish TV group Mediapro has made a bid of €1.15 billion for the TV rights to Italian Serie A football for the 2021-2024 period, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Spanish TV company regards Italian Football rights as a strategic necessity, and so has increased its initial offer by €100 million.
Mediapro plans to produce the channel Canal Liga to broadcast all the football matches. It has added €55 million for archive rights and €78 million in production costs to the bid.
The Spanish TV group has already lost the Italian Football TV rights for 2018-2021 after the Italian League had refused its down payment of €1.6 billion to retain the rights.
