From David Del Valle in Madrid
Spanish public broadcaster RTVE has awarded Telefónica, through a public tender, the distribution of its streaming signal via all digital platforms.
Telefónica will now handle the live transmission of CRTVE.es, the streaming service available on mobiles, tablets and Smart TVs, including the HbbTV technology used in the joint platform LOVESTV formed by RTVE, Mediaset and Atresmedia. Telefónica will also be technically responsible for RTVE’s VoD service.
In winning the RTVE contract, worth €2 million a year, the telco company beat rivals including Vodafone, Retevisión and the EBU.
