Netflix “ready for Disney battle”
November 9, 2018
Netflix CEO Reed Hastings has declared he is looking forward to going up against Disney when it launches its own subscription streaming service, Disney Plus, in 2019.
“We’ve been competing with Amazon for more than 10 years, so we’re used to healthy, strong competition,” he said, speaking to the BBC. “It makes us better.”
Disney Plus is expected to be a main player against the likes of Amazon Plus and Netflix. Disney has already confirmed that the device will be home to a live-action series based in the Star Wars universe, and recent announcements have included spin-off shows for the likes of Loki, Winter Soldier and Scarlet Witch – popular characters from Marvel’s blockbuster Avengers movies.
Hastings admitted that Disney will be a “formidable” opponent. “They’ve got so much content […] and that will push us to do the best work of our lives,” he said.
