Walmart, MGM partner to expand Vudu
October 8, 2018
US retail giant Walmart is partnering with movie studio Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM) to boost its Vudu VoD service.
Walmart acquired Vudu eight years ago to safeguard against the decline of DVD sales, but its current viewership is well below that of competitors like Netflix and Amazon.
“Under this partnership, MGM will create exclusive content based on their extensive library of iconic IP and that content will premiere exclusively on the Vudu platform,” Walmart spokesman Justin Rushing told Reuters.
The first title under the deal is set to be announced later this week.
