beIN Sports pulling out of Spain
July 19, 2018

beIN Sports says it will cease transmitting its bouquet of beIN Connect sports channels to Spain at the end of July. Subscribers have been told of the end of service via mail, and cable and IP re-sellers are also going dark.
Telefonica winning (at a cost of €360 million per year) the local TV transmission rights for 3 years to UEFA’s Champions League football and Europe League games would seem to have fuelled the decision.
Reportedly the end of services also applies to beIN’s web-based transmissions, although subscribers are being offered a cut-price football bundle.
beIN Connect says it will be offering a “new channel….soon”.
