February 7, 2018
From David Del Valle in Madrid
The Spanish regulator CNMC has opened an investigation into Mediaset and Atresmedia over an alleged deal between them to agree on TV ad prices thereby distorting the TV ad market to the detriment of smaller TV operators.
The companies lead the TV ad market with a share of 84.2 per cent, 43.3 per cent controlled by Atresmedia and 41.9 per cent by Mediaset.
To September 2017, according to Infoadex, the TV ad market amounted to a little over €1.5 billion, of which 90.4 per cent (€1.3 billion) was on FTA TV.
