€1bn budget for RTVE
July 26, 2017
From David Del Valle in Madrid
Spanish public broadcaster RTVE, operator of La 1 and La 2 among other channels, will increase its budget by around €30 million to a total of €1 billion next year.
In 2017 the pubcaster is managing a budget of €972.8 million, but the planned increase of telco and TV taxes is driving the rise of the 2018 budget.
By law, telco operators have to dedicate 0.9 per cent of their revenues to finance RTVE with pay-TV channels and FTA operators investing 1.5 and 3 per cent respectively of their revenues. RTVE, banned from the ad market, completes its budget with a state subsidy of €342 million.
