Subhash Chandra-backed Dish TV has enjoyed its best Q1 for three years in terms of net subscriber additions, at 390,000 (332,000 same period last year). Good as this is it wasn’t quite as favourable as Q4 last year when it added 404,000 net new subs to its total. Nevertheless, Dish’s formal guidance is to expect net new additions this financial year of 1.5-1.7 million, and helped by the shift to digital TV amongst the nation’s cable operators.
Dish TV now claims 13.3 million subscribers.
However, ARPU is only making snail-like progress. Q1 ARPU was 173 Rupees/month ($2.80), up just 1 Rupee on the previous quarter. SAC costs are running at Rs 1750 per sub ($27.40).
