UHD Champions League Final for Canal+

France’s Canal+ has confirmed that it is to screen the forthcoming UEFA Champions League Final on Saturday June 6th between Barcelona and Juventus in Ultra High Definition. The broadcast will be via Astra craft situated at 19.2°E in partnership with SES and also OTT.
The initiative is in line with the group’s year-old policy of trials across the technology chain, in collaboration with a range of industry players active in the sector.
“The live test transmission of a prominent soccer match in Ultra HD will mark another step in the introduction of this new technology,” said Ferdinand Kayser, Chief Commercial Officer of SES. “Since last year, we have conducted and successfully completed a series of test transmissions that encourage us to continue to work with customers and industry partners on the entire ecosystem necessary for a broad acceptance of Ultra HD.”
