Netflix preps Spain, Italy launches
March 9, 2015
Netflix is reportedly in advanced negotiations for an autumn launch in Spain, with a tentative date of September 1st already tabled.
Spanish financial daily newspaper Expansion claims that Netflix is negotiating with major Hollywood studios and independent distributors with an eye to launching in the country. The daily also cites sources close to TV manufacturer LG confirming that its smart TVs will carry Netflix from September.
Netflix came close to launching in Spain four years ago but pulled out at the last minute because of the country’s high privacy laws.
Meanwhile, TBI suggests that Netflix is aiming to launch its service in Italy in the second half of 2015.
Although Netflix hasn’t made an official announcement, the moves would fit with its planned ‘global expansion’ to roll out across 200 countries in the next two years.
