Movistar ups FTTH speed to 200 Mbps
September 5, 2014
From David Del Valle in Madrid
Telefonica’s Movistar is relying on its FTTH network to boost subscriptions and is increasing the speed of the service to 200 Mbps download and upload over the coming months.
The symmetric 200 Mbps service will be replacing the current 100 Mbps download/10 Mbps upload service in an attempt to encourage more subscriptions to reach the year-end target of 10 million passed homes and 15 million by the end of next year covering 80 per cent of all Spanish households by 2017.
The company has revealed that it has reached the 1 million mark active fibre customers, doubling the figure over the past 12 months. Over 3.5 million users have access to its convergent Movistar Fusion with Movistar TV reaching 1.5 million clients.
