Russian satellite DTH pay-TV provider Tricolor says it will expand services via new additional capacity aboard the ABS-2 satellite, as and when it comes on stream later this year.
ABS-2 is currently being built by Space Systems/Loral, and when launched later this year will provide extra capacity from 75 degrees East, covering the whole of Russia up to the Arctic Circle.
Tricolor is already transmitting on a satellite at 56 degrees East (Bonum-1) and 36 degrees East (Eutelsat W4).
Tricolor was founded in October 2005,acquired by Gazprom Media in 2009, and according to IHS it is Russia’s largest pay-TV platform reaching (March 2012) 10 million homes.
