Virgin tops Netflix speed index
December 10, 2013
Netflix has named Virgin Media as the UK’s fastest Internet service provider for November, taking the top spot from BT.
Netflix’s monthly speed index shows which ISPs offer the best streaming experience. While BT headed the list in October, Virgin Media is back in the number one spot, with Netflix recording average speeds on Virgin’s service of 2.59Mpbs for the month of November, up from 2.45Mbps the previous month. BT, meanwhile, saw an average speed of 2.5Mbps, which while up from October’s 2.48Mbps, failed to top Virgin.
O2 took third place with 2.32Mbps, edging out Sky, which provided average speeds of 2.31Mbps. EE and Talktalk sit at the bottom of Netflix’s November list, with average speeds of 2.28Mbps and 2.27Mbps, respectively.
Netflix’s November speed index also reveals that the Netherlands is the best country for using the service, with average broadband speeds of 3.16Mbps, with Sweden and Denmark runners up with 2.83Mpbs and 2.8Mpbs, respectively.
Mexico ranks last, just below Ireland and the US.
