DirecTV acquires 4K trademarks
February 28, 2013

There’s no comment and absolutely nothing official but it seems that DirecTV, the US-based giant DTH broadcaster, is at least preparing for the introduction of something in Ultra-HDTV (or 4K for broadcast).
DirecTV has filed with the US Patent & Trademark Office a bunch of new applications in readiness for this new transmission method. The names registered include: 4K, 4KN, 4KNET, 4K Network and 4KNetwork.
Filing a trademark need only cost $149 a time (plus legal fees), so securing the terms seems a modest investment for what might be extremely valuable terms in a few years.
