Shane O’Neill
February 20, 2012
Advanced Television is sad to report the passing away on Saturday February 18th after a 15-month illness of Shane O’Neill, former Chief Strategy Officer of Liberty Global and President, Chellomedia.
O’Neill’s early career was with KPMG in Dublin, before moving to Australia to work with Macquarie bank. He subsequently joined Goldman Sachs and built up its operation in Australia, before moving with Goldman to the US and London.
Headhunted to join cable company UPC, he stayed with the operation after it was taken over by Liberty Global, becoming a key advisor to founder John Malone, instigating a series of successful acquisitions and disposals.
The 50-year-old, though confined to a wheelchair, continued to work until retiring in November 2011.
