Brazil wants 4 new orbital slots

Brazil’s National Telecoms Agency is looking to license four new orbital slots for extra satellites. The idea is to have the slots secured and occupied with new satellites by 2014 – when the country will again go soccer crazy as it hosts the FIFA World Cup tournament.
Sky Brazil has already said it is interested. CEO Luiz Eduardo Baptista is reported as saying that his DTH operation – which currently uses Intelsat satellites – could make use of the new frequencies and capacity for HDTV and 3D.
Officially Brazil must ‘use or lose’ certain orbital positions allocated to it by 2014, hence this move.
