Xbox TV with Kinect Control
June 7, 2011
As reported here yesterday, Microsoft Corp has used day one of E3 in Los Angeles confirm plans for live TV via Xbox. It also confirmed plans presaged at CES in January to put its Kinect motion control into play for controlling media options on the platform so channels and VoD can be chosen with voice or motion control.
The moves are aimed at making its games device an essential media hub in the living room. Microsoft said it will give users access to live television programing through the Xbox in the United States sometime next year. Xbox users will also be able to access Hulu Plus, Netflix, search the Internet and watch YouTube videos on the system, all controllable through the Kinect, Microsoft said, presenting a challenge to cable TV’s dominance.
