Research: IPTV in CEE needs investment boost
December 6, 2010
After a strong uptake period, the growth dynamic of IPTV market in the region slowed down. The main restraining factor apart from growing competition on pay TV market was lack of sufficient infrastructure. Therefore, in the future, an important market driver will be investments in high speed broadband technology: fibre-to-the-home/building (FTTH/B) as well as cable infrastructure usage for IPTV provision.
“Introduction of IPTV is a natural way forward for telecoms in CEE. However, due to high network requirements operators often choose other technologies for TV services provision,” says Edyta Kosowska, Research Analyst for Information & Communication Technologies group at Frost & Sullivan “Nonetheless, in the long term IPTV is likely to become a target technology not only for telecom operators but also cable TV providers, who start investments in FTTH/B.”
