Algeria’s government is getting fed up with what it calls the “anarchy” of privately-owned TV channels, and is threatening to close all the country’s independent broadcasters.

Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal says there’s “anarchy” in the views expressed on the stations many talk shows. Unsaid is that much of this on-air talk criticises the government.

Algeria’s Communications Minister Hamid Grine has reportedly gone further and is said to have ordered around 50 channels to be closed.
