Philips, via its licensing partner MMD, is launching a 5K high-end Ultra HD receiver. Designed for mostly professional use the 5120 x 2880 pixel unit manages to deliver four times as many pixels as a ‘standard’ Quad HD unit and 50 per cent more than a conventional Ultra-HD set.

The unit measures just 27” so is not designed for viewing at home (although would make a blisteringly good – although expensive – games monitor). According to a report in Display Daily, the unit comes equipped with Phillips Monitors’ PerfectKolor Technology, and potentially one billion colours of fine resolution.

Albert Ulfman, Product Manager Philips Monitors Europe at MMD, quoted by Display Daily, says: “With the 5K resolution, we ensure that professional users can enjoy a superior-quality display with long-term reliability that can measure up to the challenges of graphics and engineering applications. 5K Ultra HD shows every minor detail, sharp and clear.”
