Telefónica in €600m La Liga deal
July 13, 2015
Spain’s Telefónica and the country’s professional football league La Liga have agreed a deal for the marketing of the exploitation of audiovisual content rights for the pay per football in the domestic market, for 2015/16 season.
The €600 million agreement grants the exclusive exploitation rights of Liga BBVA, Liga Adelante and all the pay per offer for Copa del Rey matches, to Telefónica.
In a statement, the pair expressed their satisfaction with the deal, which they considered also beneficial for the rest of the operators, clubs and supporters.
A condition of regulatory approval of the telco’s recent purchase of broadcaster Canal+ Spain was that it must offer transmission rights to its competitors.
