Movistar tops 2m pay-TV subs

Telefonica’s Movistar TV has managed to triple the number of subscribers to 2.1 million at the end of the first quarter of the year,
It gained 255,000 pay-TV subs to March against 58,000 a year earlier. Its convergence offer Movistar Fusion now has 3.9 million subs, up 21 per cent year-on-year, with 50 per cent of them taking TV.
Globally, Telefonica ended the quarter with 5.47 million pay TV subs worldwide, up 53 per cent from 3.57 million. The company highlighted that its convergent strategy also helped it multiply by 5.1 to 13.7 million its LTE customers and a 57 per cent increase in smartphones users to 91.4 million.
Telefonica reported consolidated revenues of €11.5 billion, up 12.6 per cent with a net income rising by 162 per cent year-on-year to €1.80 billion.
