China-backed StarTimes has launched a 98-channel DTH ‘StarSat’ service over Kenya. The bouquet includes premium, international and local channels.

StarTimes is already active in Kenya with a DTT bundle, launched two years ago.

SES-5, the Luxembourg operator’s 51st satellite, is carrying the signals. SES-5 is already carrying other bundles for StarTimes which has a 10-year contract with SES and currently covers at least 5 transponders.

StarTimes’ VP/marketing Hans Han said that the company’s commitment is not only to provide affordable hardware through StarSat and StarTimes but also excellent signal reception as the satellite service will be available across the country.  “It is worth noting that we have taken measures to bolster our after sales service key in ensuring our subscribers do not face installation or activation challenges on acquiring either of our pay television or free to air services,” said Hans.
