Turner launching TruTV in UK
May 14, 2014
Turner Broadcasting will launch its first free-to-air TV channel in the UK this summer – general entertainment network TruTV.
The 24-hour channel will air on an unconfirmed slot on the Freeview, Freesat and YouView platforms. Distribution deals with Sky and Virgin Media are expected to be revealed shortly.
TruTV is viewed in 93 million homes in the US and features an array of unscripted programming, including Container Wars, Fear Factor and Jokers.
The channel is expected to commission UK shows to bolster its existing output, as well as buy up shows from distributors including Endemol and Zodiak Rights.
Turner UK general manager Anthony Lukom said that the launch would expand the broadcaster’s reach to 26 million UK homes. “TruTV shows real-life comedy featuring incredible characters in real-life situations, a formula that is enjoying ever-increasing popularity worldwide,” he added.
