at800 tests 17,000 homes for 4G interference

Digital support service at800 will be conducting tests to gauge how the introduction of 4G services might disrupt Freeview reception. Around 170,000 households in south London will participate in the test. The households involved have been contacted directly and are asked to report any problems with television reception from 15 April.
The test has been set up by Digital Mobile Spectrum Limited, an organisation funded by EE, Telefónica UK (O2), Three and Vodafone – the mobile service providers who will be making use of the 800 MHz space. The testing will address concerns that 4G at 800 MHz will interfere with Freeview services which operate in an adjacent section of the radio spectrum.
“These larger tests are essential to help improve our forecast model and the way we’ll tackle potential issues caused by 4G at 800 MHz,” said Simon Beresford-Wylie, chief executive of at800. “We are extremely grateful to viewers in south east London for their help with these important tests.”
