Importers and manufacturers of digital TVs and set-top boxes face tough new regulations before the items can be sold in the market. India’s government says that each and every unit must state that it conforms to new broadcasting standards set by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), and that each and every device, including set-top boxes, must be stamped or labelled to show that it conforms to the standard.

The rules also cover all other display and electronic devices, including video game consoles, TV displays, Blu-ray and DVD players, laptop computers and electronic music systems.

The snag is that manufacturers and importers have only until April 3rd to comply with the regulations (which came into force last October 3rd).
