Cinema chain Odeon-UCI and Italian anti-piracy body FAPAV (Federazione Anti-Pirateria Audiovisiva) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the aim of jointly combating movie piracy, the first such initiative for the Italian cinema industry. In particular, they are targeting camcording. They aim to raise awareness of the rules relating to the protection of cinematographic works with regard to their illegal reproduction and duplication.

Andrea Stratta, CEO of UCI, said the initiative would make enforcement agencies and the chain’s customers aware of an illegal practice that must be reported, in the first place, by those who love the cinema. Federico Rossi, Secretary General FAPAV, said the agreement was of fundamental importance in combating the phenomenon of camcording and was the first step of a larger project that FAPAV intended to pursue.
