Jeremy Darroch, BSkyB’s CEO, has suggested that live English Premier League football could be carried on the pay-TV operator’s NOW TV over-the-top Internet TV service, which he revealed would launch mid-July.

He suggested that initially, the service would carry Sky’s movie and entertainment content, with sport following at a later stage. “We see NOW as a portal to all of our content,” he told delegates at the Future of Broadcasting Conference in London.

He admitted that the 38 games per season awarded to UK telco BT could be carried by Sky, but that it was up to BT as to what additional platform carriage it wished to negotiate beyond its BT Vision IPTV service. The new rights deal commences at the start of the 2013-2014 season.
