SF Studios acquires rights Sara Blædel’s De Berygtede

March 27, 2026

SF Studios has acquired the film adaptation rights to Sara Blædel’s popular children’s crime series De Berygtede (The Notorious), including the first book The Notorious: The Mystery of the Blue Lady. Already a major success among young readers, the series will now be developed into a Danish family film produced by SF Studios, with Sara Blædel closely involved in the creative process.

The film will be a dramatized adaptation of the book series, bringing to life an exciting universe of mysteries, courage, and friendship. The story follows four children—Cilla, her younger brother Agger, and their cousins Cuba and Havana—who are drawn into puzzling and suspenseful mysteries. In The Notorious: The Mystery of the Blue Lady, they are sent to their grandmother’s seemingly idyllic but secretive farm, where a series of strange events—including runaway sheep, a suspicious stranger in a silver car, and rumors of a ghostly figure—pull them into a thrilling mystery, setting the stage for a cinematic adventure for the whole family.

“Sara Blædel has created a captivating and imaginative universe that has already resonated strongly with young readers. The Notorious combines suspense, adventure, and relatable characters in a way that makes it perfect for the big screen. We look forward to working closely with Sara Blædel to develop these stories into engaging and entertaining films for the whole family,” say producers Marcella Dichmann and Mia Elvstrøm Myrälf of SF Studios.

Blædel is one of Denmark’s most widely read authors, known for her internationally bestselling series about Louise Rick and Ilka. With The Notorious series, she has created a new universe aimed at younger audiences who enjoy mystery and adventure. The series has had a strong launch, with the first book attracting a wide readership and the recently released second installment, The Notorious: The Mystery of the Shadow Marsh, already entering the bestseller lists.

“I wrote The Notorious series inspired by the curiosity and imagination I grew up with—where anything could be hiding at the edge of the forest, and where imagination was free to run wild. To see this universe now being adapted into film is both exciting and deeply moving, and I look forward to more children and families experiencing these mysteries together,” said Blædel.

SF Studios secured the rights to the series following strong interest, marking another step in the company’s strategy to develop compelling, locally rooted stories into films for a broad audience.
