Sky Arts’ Landscape Artist of the Year returns in January 2026
December 11, 2025
Sky Arts’ flagship arts competition Landscape Artist of the Year returns to Sky Arts, Freeview and streaming service NOW for its eleventh season on January 14th, shining a spotlight on extraordinary artistic talent from across the UK and Ireland. Hosted by Stephen Mangan, the series sees a new wave of artists pick up their brushes to capture the country’s most striking scenery.
This series, we welcome Eva Langret, Director of Frieze London, to the judging panel for the first time, bringing her extensive expertise and keen eye for contemporary art to the series. Eva will be joined by long-standing judges Tai Shan Schierenberg and Kathleen Soriano. Filmed across a range of iconic UK landmarks, this year’s artists set up their easels in some of Britain’s most beautiful settings, including:
- Dover Castle, Kent
- The Lake District, Cumbria
- The Thames from HMS Wellington, London
- Dover Ferry Port, Kent
- St James’s Park, London
- The Ouse Valley Viaduct, West Sussex
- The Falkirk Wheel, Scotland
Across the heats, eight artists in each episode will have just four hours to capture their chosen scene in their preferred medium, while up to 50 wildcard entrants paint alongside them in hopes of catching the judges’ attention. The winners from each heat will progress through to the semi-final and final, where one artist will be crowned Landscape Artist of the Year 2026 and receive a £10,000 commission to paint Croagh Patrick – Ireland’s holy mountain – a stunning landscape in County Mayo for the National Gallery of Ireland.
Landscape Artist of the Year is produced by Storyvault Films. Executive Producers are Danielle Graham, Samantha Richards and Stuart Prebble. The Series Editor is Charlie Sever and the Series Director is Southan Morris. Commissioned by Phil Edgar-Jones, Executive Director, Unscripted for Sky, for Cécile Frot-Coutaz, CEO of Sky Studios & Chief Content Officer, Sky. The Commissioning Editor for Sky is Benedetta Pinelli.
