Euro-bank sets up €500m space fund
December 4, 2025
The European Investment Bank (EIB) has created a €500 million fund for Space-based technology.
The fund, ‘Space Tech EU’ is intended to bring together the skills of the of EIB, the European Commission and the European Space Agency (ESA) to help de-risk space projects, making them more acceptable for other financing from European banks.
The fund was announced at the recent ESA ministerial meeting in Bremen, Germany. It is the EIB’s first dedicated fund for space tech.
EIB Vice President Robert de Groot told delegates: “This facility will give banks the confidence to increase their financing in Europe at favourable terms across the entire space value chain,” de Groot said. “We will be working with our banking partners across Europe.”
The fund is primarily looking at smaller and mid-sized (SME) businesses although larger-scale projects can be considered. However, SME’s are the companies which tend to find raising cash a challenge.
The EIB fund stated it “will provide both credit lines and guarantees to EU banking partners”.
“We will give banks across the EU the tools and the confidence to increase their financing for space companies in Europe,” de Groot added.
