ITV series to celebrate 60 years of Thunderbirds
September 30, 2025

Sixty years after Thunderbirds first landed on British TV screens, the iconic show is being celebrated with a fresh look back at its enduring legacy.
A special mini-series will see super-fan Scarlett Moffatt look beyond the strings and step into the world of International Rescue, speaking to the people who know the show best and uncovering untold stories from the last six decades. The series will be released in mid-October across ITVX, ITV Retro YouTube and Thunderbirds social channels.
Across a series of special conversations, Moffatt will speak with:
- Dee Anderson – daughter of creators Sylvia and Gerry Anderson, sharing what it was really like growing up in the household that built Thunderbirds.
- Anthea Turner – revisiting the 1990s’ most famous Blue Peter moment: making a Tracy Island model that went viral before viral was even a thing.
- Mary Turner – one of the original puppeteers, lifting the lid on the craft and magic of Supermarionation.
- Jamie Anderson – son of Gerry Anderson, reflecting on how the Thunderbirds legacy continues to inspire today.
Moffatt commented: “I’ve adored Thunderbirds since I was little, so this has been a real bucket-list moment. To go behind the strings and discover the secrets from the people who made it happen was FAB in every sense.”
ITV Studios are the rights holders to Thunderbirds and partner with the Anderson Estate.
