PayWizard for ITV micropayments
January 30, 2012
UK commercial broadcaster ITV is to delay the introduction of micropayments for its on-demand ITV Player catch-up service, which it intended to launch in January 2012, and carry out closed trials based on MGT’s PayWizard solution.
The move had been anticipated following suggestions of such an initiative by CEO Adam Crozier in mid-2011, allowing the broadcaster to wean off its dependence on advertising revenue and open up its expensive back catalogue to monetisation, both at home and overseas.
“We now have a pay mechanism in place, using MGT’s Pay Wizard, which will enable us to begin a trial of our consumer propositions,” said an ITV spokesman. “There is nothing further to announce at this time. We will first be conducting closed trials, as is standard practice. Our wider pay strategy is also progressing well, with deals with subscription platforms LOVEFiLM and Netflix secured in the last month both contributing to our goal of driving new pay revenue streams.”
