giffgaff launches full-fibre service

September 15, 2025

Mobile network provider giffgaff, which is owned by Telefónica and uses O2’s associated virtual operator (MVNO) platform, has officially rolled out its full-fibre broadband products – which are powered by nexfibre and Virgin Media’s networks – in the UK.

“We’re delighted to see giffgaff’s broadband rolling out across our network,” said Rajiv Datta, CEO of nexfibre. “Our investment in an all XGS-PON network provides symmetrical high bandwidth connectivity, and also offers the agility to support the member co-created products that differentiate giffgaff in the marketplace.”

In response to the news, Ernest Doku,  Uswitch broadband expert, commented: “Following a successful trial earlier this year, giffgaff’s entry into the broadband market could be exciting news for consumers looking for an alternative to the bigger players. The new service will run off nexfibre’s wholesale network, which is currently only used by Virgin Media O2.”

“Long known as a value player in the mobiles space, consumers may have been hoping to see lower launch prices from giffgaff’s offering. The new plans start at £34 per month for 200Mbps and go to £39 per month for 900Mbps, with no set up fee – significantly higher than the trial price of £10.giffgaff’s key point of difference is that it offers all three of its plans as monthly rolling contracts, as opposed to the more usual 18-24 month contracts offered by competitors, promising customers flexibility and simplicity. While giffgaff’s pricing is fairly standard for a rolling contract, there are cheaper deals out there if you’re happy to sign up for longer. Virgin Media offers 264Mbps for £30.50 per month and 4th Utility offers 250Mbps for £17 per month, both on 24 month contracts. Compared to giffgaff’s 900Mbps deal for £39, Hyperoptic currently offers speeds of 900Mbps for £21 per month on a 12 month contract and Community Fibre for £20 per month on a 24 month contract.”

“If you’re a student, renter or have a variable income, the flexibility of a monthly rolling plan may be more appealing to you and worth paying a little extra for. Regardless, it’s always worth running a comparison to see the best deals in your area and find a package that suits your needs,” concluded Doku.
