Sky’s Strong awarded honorary doctorate
July 15, 2025
The University for the Creative Arts (UCA) has awarded an honorary doctorate to Dana Strong, Group Chief Executive at Sky, recognising her outstanding contribution to the creative industries and her belief in the power of creativity to shape culture, technology, and society.
Strong’s leadership journey – spanning the US, Australia, the UK and Ireland – has been shaped by creativity, inclusivity and a spirit of innovation. These are values that sit at the heart of UCA’s mission: empowering people to use their creativity to drive change, respond to challenges, and shape a better future. Her approach to leadership reflects the belief that diverse perspectives, open minds, and bold ideas are essential ingredients for cultural and creative progress.
Since joining Sky, Strong has driven innovation and expanded Sky’s creative ambition through bold storytelling. She also recognises the unique power of sport to connect communities and spark inspiration.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony at London’s Royal Festival Hall, Strong reflected on the role creativity has played throughout her life and career: “One thing I’ve learned is that creativity isn’t only for artists. Creativity is about seeing the world differently, solving problems in fresh ways, and staying open to new ideas and possibilities all through your journey.”
UCA recognised Strong’s belief that creativity is not confined to studios or stages but is a mindset that belongs in every sphere – from business strategy to cultural innovation. Her advocacy for new voices and underrepresented talent has helped redefine what creative leadership looks like in the modern world.
In her address to the Class of 2025, she left graduates with a message of encouragement: “Whether you move forward, sideways, or even backwards now and then, just keep moving with passion and purpose. Stay ambitious, stay humble, dream big, keep learning, and cherish and thank those who helped you.”
