Arabsat-owned Hellas Sat says it has been granted a licence to establish and operate a DTT network in Cyprus, marking a major step forward in the country’s broadcasting landscape. The authorisation, issued by the director of the deputy ministry of research’s electronic communications department, will be valid from December 1st 2025 to November 9th 2040.

The licence allows Hellas Sat to broadcast four single frequency networks (SFNs), each equipped with two transmission channels. One channel per network will serve the Troodos region, while the other will cover the Famagusta area, making a total of eight transmission channels available across Cyprus.

The new network will operate using the DVB-T2 broadcasting standard, a technology that enhances transmission speeds and capacity. This upgrade will enable the delivery of HD and 4K television programming, significantly improving viewing quality for households across the island.

Christodoulos Protopapas, CEO at Hellas Sat, revealed that the company is currently evaluating bids for the supply of cutting-edge digital multiplexing and television transmission equipment. Orders for the most innovative and reliable equipment available on the market are expected to be placed in March.

“Both I and our technical team in Cyprus are thrilled and immensely proud to bring HD and 4K TV broadcasting to Cypriot households, upgrading the television experience in the country,” Protopapas stated.
