October 31, 2024

See-Saw Films has announced a first look deal with British screenwriter and showrunner Ben Vanstone.

Vanstone most recently created and showran A Gentleman In Moscow for Paramount+, starring Ewan McGregor, adapted from the best-selling novel by Amor Towles. Prior to that he created and Executive Produced All Creatures Great and Small for four seasons on Channel 5 and was Co-Executive Producer on The English Game for Netflix. Ben’s previous credits include The Last Kingdom, The Borrowers, Cider With Rosie and Merlin.

The deal was negotiated by 42’s CEO, Josh Varney, on behalf of Vanstone and Vanity Film & TV, and by See-Saw Films’ Joint MD Simon Gillis, along with Senior Business & Legal Affairs Executive, Madeleine Brookman, on behalf of See-Saw.

Vanstone said: “I’m thrilled to be starting this new partnership with See-Saw Films. I’ve long admired the team’s distinctive, high-quality work, and I look forward to collaborating on projects for years to come. I’m also excited to welcome Hannah Connell-Moylan to Vanity Film & TV, where she’ll play a key role in shaping our future projects.”

Vanstone and See-Saw have jointly hired a Head of Development, Hannah Connell-Moylan, who reports directly to Vanstone. Her most recent work includes the Prime series The Power starring Toni Collette, based on the bestselling novel and The Listeners starring Rebecca Hall for BBC.

See-Saw Joint MD, Helen Gregory, added: “We are so excited to be working with Ben and supporting him to tell the emotionally generous, beautifully crafted stories he excels at. We’re proud to be partnering with him as he builds on his impressively eclectic and enduring achievements and are looking forward to this next chapter of his career”.

See-Saw has grown into a major independent television and film company, with offices in Sydney and London. The company has nine Executive Producer-led slates focusing on returning TV, limited TV, and film, plus internal labels and joint ventures with key talent, and flagship four quadrant IP The Neverending Story in development.

The deal with Vanstone follows several recent literary options for See-Saw, including the West End hit play Shifters by Benedict Lombe, dark romance Dandelion is Dead from debut novelist Rosie Storey, big-hearted novel Welcome to Glorious Tuga by Francesca Segal, and the upcoming debut Romantic Tragedies of a Drama King by Harry Trevaldwyn. In the last month See-Saw has released three titles: A fourth season of Slow Horses for Apple TV+, a third season of Heartstopper for Netflix, and a brand new series Sweetpea for Sky.
