Regulator: Sky should share subscribers
November 22, 2011
The UK Competition Commission has issued two further possible remedies to increase competition in the pay-TV movie segment. In April this year it determined Sky’s dominance was an adverse effect on competition and in August it issued its first set of proposed remedies, now, as a result of consultations, it has put out two more ‘supplementary remedies’ for industry discussion.
The first suggests Sky be required to provide access to its customers who are able to receive its Anytime+ SVOD service (all with Ethernet connected STBs) to any to any qualifying over-the-top (OTT) movie service provider.
The second supplementary remedy proposes Sky be forced to publish the expiry dates of its movie pay-TV first subscription pay-TV window (FSPTW) contracts with the six main studios so that competitors would know when to enter timely negotiations.
