EchoStar’s owned Hughes Europe is linking with Italian satellite service provider Telespazio to launch a government and consumer-focussed satellite online connectivity service.
The pair will use Eutelsat’s Konnect Very High Throughput (VHTS) craft for its widespread coverage.
The intention behind the partnership is to target both the government as well as the growing enterprise broadband market segment over Europe. The Konnect-VHTS satellite has very high capacity, capable of delivering 230 beams over Western Europe and a Ka-band capacity of 500 Gbps, which makes it one of the largest GEO satellites ever launched.
User terminals will use the same technology as the existing Hughes Jupiter satellite system.
“I am pleased to share with a champion like Hughes Network Systems Europe the ambition to provide revolutionary services for the government and enterprise markets. Our respective expertise and geographic presence form the ideal basis for achieving our goals,” commented Alessandro Caranci, SVP/Satellite Communication Line of Business, Telespazio.
