Six more for France DTT?
October 10, 2011
According to Le Figaro, the French government wants six new channels on the country’s DTT platform. It will ask the CSA to open a new tender for channels.
In addition to the main commercial broadcasters who will be picking up the ‘bonus channels’ due to them after DSO, other bidders are likely to include NRJ and Nextradio TV. This would mean new channels launched in the DVB-T format against the recommendations of the CSA which wants to shift to DVB-T2, requiring users to buy a new STB.
The award of the extra channels is also dependent on a ruling by the European Commission, which has expressed strong reservations about the proposal.
