Michelle Donelan, Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS), has revealed she is expecting a baby in 2023 and will be taking a short maternity leave from DCMS. Given her absence from parliament, it is unlikely that there will be any material progress in the meanwhile on issues such the privatisation of Channel 4 and funding of the BBC.
During her absence, matters will be handled by Julia Lopez MP, Minister of State for Media, Data, and Digital Infrastructure; The Rt Hon Stuart Andrew MP; Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Minister for Sport, Tourism and Civil Society, and Minister for Equalities); Lord Parkinson of Whitley Bay, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Minister for Arts and Heritage and DCMS Lords Minister), and Paul Scully MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Tech and the Digital Economy.
